All the gamers out there have probably already gotten excited about/bought/played this PS3 game awhile ago, but anyone who hasn’t yet should definitely try it. I just got my hands on a copy of this recently, and it is really fun.
For me though, what makes it so fun to play is the creativity in the style and graphics. This is, of course, coming from someone who buys stuff in the grocery store almost solely on how the packaging looks, so beware! (Actually though, I’m usually right.) Anyway, the graphics in this game are so cute and handmade looking.
Plus it appeals to me because of the fact that one of the main objectives is to find and collect stickers and outfits and things like that. When you get a sticker, you can stick it on anything in the game–even your character’s own face. I accidently figured that out by stamping a picture of a shoe on my boyfriend’s character… then he started frantically searching to see if there’s a “clean my character” button, which, fortunately, there is.
In the picture above, you can see my little character, dressed up like a cat with pink sunglasses. Just like my cat in real life! And you can also sorta see my boyfriend’s character, the little purple dude with the blue helmet in the corner, stamping leaves all over the house.
My favorite font ever is Brothers, created by John Downer in 1999. Normally I wouldn’t say I have only ONE favorite font, there are so many options, but somehow Brothers is just my style exactly. It’s old and antique looking and yet somehow fresh and new, though I can’t say what exactly about it makes it new looking too. It’s dynamic and blocky without being too loud. I saw it on the “Taco Tuesdays” ad at El Torito recently, and it’s also famous for being the “O Brother Where Art Thou” font, and I used it for my own portfolio website. Without this font, I would have had SUCH a hard time choosing between all the other fonts I love for the website. Here’s a great example of the font, from the Emigre site:
Also this font below, by Ned Wright, was inspired by Brothers–or rather, it was created because of how much people are using Brothers, and I adore this font as well but it doesn’t seem to be available. But here’s my vote for making it available, I’d buy it! Same antique quality but with a weird steampunk-ish look, too. It has a lot of personality, I like them both!
But as far as other fonts go, there are just endless great ones. Gotham, which is the font that Obama’s designers use, has been one of my favorites (even before Obama too! But it is used very elegantly in all of his websites/etc). Gotham looks strong yet sleek and is versatile enough to be used for essentially anything. I love anything made by Letterhead Fonts or Misprinted Type, and I also love Filosofia, Chennai, Fling, Estilo Affair, Bree, and so many others. Browsing Dafont has always been a way to spend more than a few hours for me. There are so many fonts and each one says something different, sometimes it does get confusing for me when designing a project, to figure out what all that font is saying, the can say so many things at the same time. It’s always a worthwhile challenge, though, when you find the perfect one.
